Main Street Tax Credit Incentive Contributors, MLBA Members, LakeTown Landing business owners and those interested in membership, were invited to attend the Moses Lake Business Association’s Quarterly Nite Out and the organization’s largest crowd ever showed up for the event.

Close to 50 people showed for networking, hors d’oeuvres and drinks on Tuesday, February 19th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm at MLBA’s conference room in Desert Plaza at Third & Alder in LakeTown Landing.

J’s Teryiaki, a LakeTown Landing business’s food was served, MLBA members Camas Cove Cellars and St. Brigid’s Brewery served drinks and the evening’s featured speaker was Jonathan Smith, the Director of the Grant County Economic Development Council.

Lisa Boorman, new MLBA Board Member and owner of Red Door Consignment said, “Jonathan’s talk was very interesting and I look forward to hearing him speak again about our local economy.”

Jonathan spoke about the EDC’s vast array of knowledge when it comes to our economy, who lives here, our shopping patterns, our local resources, etc. All these factors are what companies are looking for when they’re looking for a location to expand. The EDC focuses a lot of their time on tracking this data and staying as up-to-date as possible. The EDC has recently joined forces with Allan Peterson of the Small Business Development Center, which is now located in the EDC office. Both offices can now share data and work together to get more companies interested in Grant County.

Jonathan mentioned a new project in the works that will employ 30-45 people and be a significant increase in our local economy. There is a Retail Task Force of local business individuals and those interested in having a say can attend these meetings held at the Chamber of Commerce.

Marianne Kirwan, the current Executive Director her leaving the position to get back into real estate at Get Rich Quick Properties and Jasmyne DeBeaumont was introduced as the incoming Executive Director.

Dean Mitchell, Moses Lake’s Chief of Police, presented Marianne Kirwan a plaque thanking her for her continuous support of our community. He said, when most groups ask what the police department is doing about safety and security Marianne was always the one to step forward and say, “What can I do to help?” A prime example was a few years back there was a string of vandalism in our community and Marianne, along with the Moses Lake Business Association, headed up a task force where they drove around in the evenings and early mornings patrolling LakeTown Landing. They eventually caught the individual and the vandalism stopped.

The highlight of the evening was a teaser from The Music Man performed by the Basin Community Theater.

Raffle prizes were given away and the winners were: Martha Mitchell (Fae’s Books & Crafts), Susan Mann (Columbia Basin Job Corps), Matthew Glencoe (iFiber News), Jeremy Boetger (Michaelle Boetger Graphic Designs), Debbie Doran-Martinez (Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce), Kyleigh Boorman (Red Door Consignment), Laura Mayer (ARTGARDEN Pottery), Susan Freeman (Pioneer Memorial Services), Whitney Wytko (St. Brigid’s Brewery).

Thanks to all the businesses that donated prizes: Business Interiors & Equipment, SignsNow, Moses Lake Talk, KDRN/KBSN, VENUE Magazine, Michaelle Boetger Graphic Designs, UPS Store, and Basin Community Theater.
